Manchester Ticket Touts Investigation
FanFair Alliance investigated resale listings for nearly 300 events at venues around Manchester and found that three sellers accounted for more than 75% of the 1,600-plus tickets listed on Viagogo. The striking figures — including a £5,899 listing for a grassroots venue show — gave the campaign a concrete way to show how touting reaches beyond major arena gigs.
Why it worked: It led with a simple, shocking concentration stat (three sellers = 75% of listings) plus extreme price outliers, localising a national scandal.
The lesson: Consider auditing a messy marketplace, quantify one eye-popping concentration or markup stat, and pair it with a relatable, local human example.
