Usera’s Chinatown Welcome Arch
Madrid City Council worked with Usera’s Chinese community and artist Okuda San Miguel to create a colourful paifang marking the district’s identity as Madrid’s Chinatown. The arch pairs Madrid’s bear with two Chinese dragons, giving the neighbourhood a distinctive new landmark and a clear visual hook for coverage.
Why it worked: A civic milestone with a hard date—public art unveiling by a name artist—gave media a clear event peg plus striking visuals.
The lesson: Consider tying a community co-created installation to a fixed unveiling date with bold visuals and a named creator for easy coverage.
