The Poké Ball Guesthouse
Pokémon and Not A Hotel created a giant Poké Ball guesthouse in a forest beside a lake in Hokkaido. Rather than open it for normal bookings, they invited Japanese fans to enter a competition for one of 200 places, turning the fantasy of sleeping inside a Poké Ball into a limited real-world experience.
Why it worked: A hard-to-get, time-limited stay tied to Pokémon’s 30th and Pokémon Sleep’s anniversary created scarcity, nostalgia, and a visual wow shot editors love.
The lesson: Consider crafting a once-only, lottery-access experience that requires a product action to enter, with a killer, photogenic build as proof.
