The Grief Tax Report
Empathy partnered with Censuswide to survey more than 5,500 employees and employers about the hidden workload of bereavement, giving the burden a memorable name: “The Grief Tax”. The report turned an overlooked workplace issue into a timely conversation about benefits, retention and the roughly 500 hours involved in managing a loved one’s affairs.
Why it worked: It quantified a universal, “invisible” burden (500 hours) with a sticky name, tied to looming 2026 budget decisions—giving brokers a clear, timely ROI hook.
The lesson: Consider naming and quantifying a hidden workload in your space, then time it to an upcoming planning cycle to force action.
