The Neo-Hokusai Flower Carpet
Brussels transformed its Grand Place into a 1,300-square-metre floral recreation of Hokusai’s Great Wave, using around 500,000 dahlias. Created to mark 160 years of Belgium–Japan relations, the ephemeral installation gave visitors a striking, highly filmable cultural spectacle to watch being assembled by hand.
Why it worked: A rare, time-limited spectacle with a build-in-progress visual — half a million flowers forming a famous artwork — guaranteed irresistible video.
The lesson: Consider staging a one-week-only, assemble-in-public transformation of an iconic image or object to create must-shoot, appointment‑to‑see footage.
