Unscramblerer.com Spelling Study

PR Campaign
Thursday 21st May, 2026

Unscramblerer.com analysed Google Trends and Ahrefs search data to publish a list of America’s most-misspelled words and the top misspellings by state, timing it ahead of the National Spelling Bee to earn news coverage about digital-era spelling habits.

Why it worked: It piggybacked the National Spelling Bee with fresh, state-by-state Google search data, creating timely, localizable headlines and easy lists.

The lesson: Consider timing new proprietary rankings to a national event, with geo-cut data so every outlet gets a ready-made local angle.
