Rise in UK Neet numbers
Thursday 28th May, 2026
The latest ONS figures show 1.01 million 16–24-year-olds in the UK were neither in education nor work in Jan–Mar 2026, the highest since late 2013 and driven by a record number classed as economically inactive—particularly young men. This gives Lego a chance to speak about the role of play and creative learning in keeping young people engaged and building skills outside formal education, especially in the UK where the trend is most pronounced.
Why have we flagged this?
Rising youth NEET rates are a major national story affecting young people's development and play; Lego could comment on play's role in skills, learning and wellbeing and share youth engagement or educational programme data.
