Oxford Street pedestrianisation (western section)
Saturday 1st August, 2026
This is a plan by City Hall and Transport for London to pedestrianise the western section of Oxford Street in central London, removing through motor traffic and redesigning highway operations as part of a wider regeneration programme managed by the new Oxford Street Development Corporation. This gives Lego a chance to comment on how pedestrian-friendly high streets in the UK can boost family visits, hands-on play experiences and in-store interactions for shoppers and tourists, especially around major retail hubs like Selfridges and nearby stores.
Why have we flagged this?
Strong alignment: pedestrianising Oxford Street directly affects footfall, family leisure time and in-store experiences—Lego can run planned in-store activations, family events and data-led comment on play-friendly high streets, while reacting to local transport/regeneration announcements with expert quotes about retail and play. Clear PR hooks around hands-on play zones, pop-ups near Selfridges and family-focused visiting campaigns.
