EU repairability rules taking effect
Thursday 18th February, 2027
The EU’s Sustainable Batteries Regulation requires many portable batteries to be removable and replaceable by end users, with labelling and digital passport requirements and the removability rules kicking in from 2027. This matters to LEGO because the company increasingly sells electronic and battery‑powered sets and accessories across the EU (including the UK market indirectly) — it gives you a chance to speak about product longevity, sustainability and how LEGO-compatible batteries and components support repairability and reduced e‑waste.
Why have we flagged this?
Strong alignment: LEGO’s growing range of battery‑powered sets makes the EU repairability rules a clear opportunity to highlight product longevity, modular design and compatible replaceable batteries, plus to announce labelling, repair guides or a trade‑in/refill scheme that would land well in press and social channels.
