Austrian national proposal to ban social media for under-14s

Austria’s governing coalition has announced plans to draft legislation to prohibit use of social media by children under 14, with officials saying a draft will be prepared by the end of June 2026 and implementation aimed for the start of the next school year. The proposal includes plans for privacy-respecting age verification and would need parliamentary approval before taking effect.
