Berlin referendum on car‑reduced city centre
Sunday 20th September, 2026
A citizens’ initiative in Berlin is campaigning for a binding referendum to make the central area within the S‑Bahn ring largely car‑reduced, reallocating street space to walking, cycling and public transport by limiting private car use. This gives Lego’s PR team a chance to comment on urban play and family-friendly public spaces in Germany — highlighting how safer, less traffic‑dominated streets could support outdoor play, community building and creative street installations, especially relevant to parents and families in Berlin and across Europe.
Why have we flagged this?
Strong alignment: Lego can credibly comment on how car‑reduced streets create safer, more playful public spaces for families and children, and can propose proactive ideas (community builds, pop‑up play streets, cycling workshops) as well as react to referendum developments with expert comment in Germany and across Europe.
