Check passports before summer travel
Tuesday 2nd June, 2026
Simon Calder warns UK holidaymakers bound for the EU or Schengen area to check passports now after many were denied boarding because their passports were issued more than 10 years before their arrival date or lack the required three months’ validity beyond their return; this mostly affects holders of older burgundy passports. This gives Airbnb a chance to remind UK hosts and guests — especially those with bookings in Spain, France and other EU countries — to verify passport issue dates and validity to avoid ruined stays and last‑minute cancellations.
Why have we flagged this?
Summer passport rules are causing boarding refusals for British travellers to the EU — Airbnb can help with traveller guidance and last-minute booking/data on affected destinations.
