EU rollout of Digital Identity Wallets (EUDI Wallets)
Thursday 31st December, 2026
The EU is rolling out a standard Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) under eIDAS 2.0 so citizens and businesses can securely hold and share verified identity credentials across member states; each country must offer at least one certified wallet by end of 2026 and pilots are already underway. This matters to Airbnb because verified digital IDs could streamline cross‑border guest and host verification, making it easier to prove identity and regulatory compliance across the EU — gives you a chance to comment on trust, safety and cross‑border travel in the EU (including implications for the UK market).
Why have we flagged this?
Strong alignment — verified digital ID could materially streamline guest and host checks, reduce friction for cross‑border stays and boost trust and safety narratives that Airbnb can lead with both proactive campaigns and reactive comment.
